1 week to transfer deadline, how have we done?
How do you think we've done with a week to go?

On paper we have brought in 2 quality players and I think the vast majority of us are excited to see them playing. So great job done here by all concerned.

Compared to the rest of the Premiership our net spend is 10th at present. It seems no big transfers are coming in and you can bet a few of the other Premier ship teams will spend big in the next week, so our net spend is likely to drop to the bottom half. So are we falling behind the rest of the Premier?

Have we got better as a team this off-season, I think Haller and Fornals make us better for sure, Yarmolenko and Lanzini should almost be like new players to us after missing most of last season. So yeah we have to be better than last year in my view (injuries permitting!)

Lastly squad depth. I think is not so good, if we lose Haller we are screwed, if we lose Declan we'll struggle and i think we can say that in a few other positions.

So how do you lot think we have done?

2 good signings made
let go and sold some old shit so saving millions in wages
net spend 20m
players not replaced
defence that was weak last season not improved

all in all fucking shit from the owners yet again

It's always smoke and mirrors with the owners

Praise the good, ignore the bad

They thrive on positive news stories to feed their massive egos

Our squad is significantly smaller and they havent addressed the goals conceded issue from last season

So in summary, yes, could do much better

We haven't sold/got rid of anyone that we didn't want to.

That's progress.

Kind of.

Obviously not looking to selling the club as you have to speculate to accumulate !!!!!!

crap cover at CB & GK, very few good options at DM/CM & only two strikers. not great but it's what that pair of cunts do, so MP will have to use what he has

Re: 1 week to transfer deadline, how have we done?
Far more have gone out than come in BUT of those got rid off only two were legitimate 1st team squad members (Arnautovic & Obiang).

With Lanzini and Yarma fit there is no doubt our 1st team squad of 15 or so is better than last year.

We are very unlikely to add anyone else who will be first choice but if we add a couple of decent back up players then we are looking good IMO.

I know people are concerned about our defence but I like The General and Diop (and Ogbonna is a decent 3rd choice)... we just need Johnson and Fredericks to kick on now. I'm worried about LB though. I like Arthur going forward but he can't defend.

Re: 1 week to transfer deadline, how have we done?
I’m looking forward to the season. As in every year, there will be triumphs and there will be utter dejection. It will effect my mood briefly and then I’ll get on with life.
Certainly looks like it’ll be more of an attacking year in general which the vast majority craved after Sam and Moyes.

Re: 1 week to transfer deadline, how have we done?
Positives: Signings we have made very good. GK personnel now very solid. Plus, injured players from last season fit again and raring to go. Released lots of expensive deadwood.

Negatives: Squad still a little light on some areas. Think we need another striker, DM and CB.

I do think we will conduct more business. I am a little concerned that I have seen other clubs getting in players that play in areas that we need strengthening. I realise that you can steal a march on other clubs and often its just about having a contact at the right time.

I reckon a striker will come in at the very least.

Little concerned that it seems the owners are happy with a £20m net spend. I know its not all about the amount you spend but who you get. But surely we are a club that can stretch to another £25m - £30m player that could really shake up the first team?

All in all, pretty happy but it could've and should've been better.

Would have swapped Fornals for 2 or 3 defensive players

Ned a couple more. We look great with all our injury prone players back but they are injury prone so expect them out again soon.

Re: 1 week to transfer deadline, how have we done?
Got a lot of dead wood off the books. The signings speak for themselves. Most likely one more to come in. I fucking dislike the SPIVS and this would never happened without H&M. But it's a step in the right direction.

8 out of 10

Re: 1 week to transfer deadline, how have we done?
We could just about get away with no more signings.

But let's not rely on luck. Two more players in now - Ideally DM and a striker.

Re: 1 week to transfer deadline, how have we done?
Could do with a left back. After Cresswell and Antonio our dips into Championship have been poor but maybe that would have been somewhere to look for a position that is our glaring weakness .

We desperately need another striker but I expect us to leave that till January.

The actual two headline signings have been great.

6/10

Currently not good enough to challenge any higher up the league than last season.
